THE COMPETITIONS
Overview
Riders compete in four events - Banked Slalom (BS), SnowboardCross* (also called Boardercross) (SBX), Slopestyle (SS), and Halfpipe (HP). Riders do not need prior competition experience.
*SnowboarderCross (SBX) brackets are established based on Banked Slalom (BS) times.
Banked Slalom
Banked slalom is an individual timed downhill race on a winding course through gates and around fast turns, berms, and rollers. A rider's score is based on the time it takes the rider to clear the course, while clearing all the gates correctly.
SnowboarderCross
Mario Kart on the mountain. In SnowboarderCross, four riders race down the Banked Slalom course in a head-to-head race. The top two riders from each heat advance to the next heat until the finals are complete.
Slopestyle
An individual freestyle competition where riders ride a course with rails, jumps, and other terrain features, performing tricks. Riders are judged by a panel in three main categories: spins, grinds, and grabs.
Halfpipe
An individual freestyle competition where riders snowboard down the halfpipe and perform tricks and jumps. Riders are scored on the variety and complexity of their tricks, their execution, and the use of the halfpipe.
